The “Water-Walker” Within

The “Water-Walker” Within

I firmly believe there’s a “Water-Walker” within each one of us.

Have you ever sensed, deep down inside, a divine stirring that awakens the promise of a new adventure? Maybe you felt a powerful tug on your heart to say “yes” to Jesus even though it didn’t make sense and even though you couldn’t see beyond that first terrifying step.

Walking with Jesus will always involve invitations to step out into unknown, uncertain and untested waters.

Remember the story of Peter? He saw Jesus on top of the water—walking out His glory and sovereignty during a ferocious storm—and all Peter wanted at that moment was to be a part of something bigger than himself. He wanted more of Jesus.

I think an indescribable longing stirred in his heart and Peter wanted to know, intimately know, his Lord Jesus and experience His overcoming power in an up-close and personal way.

And Peter did the unthinkable and the impossible. He stepped out and walked on water with Jesus . . . until he didn’t.

When fear speaks louder than our faith, listen to God’s Voice calling out to us over the storms of life:

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

My presence will go with you. I’ll see the journey to the end. (Exodus 33:14 MSG)

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. For I hold you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, “Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.” (Isaiah 41:10,13 NLT)

Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

So don’t throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. (Hebrews 10:35)

Remember this: God is bigger than your storms. He’s got you and His grip on you can never be shaken.

God will establish His purposes for you and He’ll do it without even breaking a sweat. So the next time you hear God inviting the “water-walker” within you to do something that fills your heart with fear, fix your eyes on Jesus and boldly declare along with the Psalmist:

Lord, You are my rock, my fortress and my deliverer. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. I will be strong and courageous and trust in You with all my heart! (Psalm 18:2,35; Psalm 27:14)
